Launch Schedule for Four SIGMA F1.4 Prime Lenses for Canon RF Mount
Following the release of the 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary in June this year, SIGMA will soon expand its Canon RF mount lineup with four fast-aperture (F1.4) lenses, beginning on December 5. On that date, SIGMA will launch the 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary and the SIGMA 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary for Canon RF Mount. Early in 2025, with an exact date to be confirmed, two more lenses in this series will follow: the SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary and the SIGMA 23mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary for Canon RF Mount.
With these lenses, designed for mirrorless cameras with a crop sensor, creators can enjoy the high performance and quality of SIGMA prime lenses on their Canon RF Mount system. SIGMA has developed a control algorithm specifically for these Canon RF mount lenses, optimizing both AF drive and communication speed. In addition to fast autofocus, the lenses also support Servo AF and in-camera aberration correction. The mounts are equipped with a rubber seal for versatile use across various environments. Furthermore, each lens is exceptionally lightweight, compact, bright, and sharp.

Canon RF primes
SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary
This lens combines an unprecedentedly compact size with class-leading performance. It includes 16 elements in 13 groups, including FLD (“F” low-dispersion, comparable to fluorite glass) and SLD (special low-dispersion) elements, to effectively control sagittal coma flare and other aberrations. The 9-blade diaphragm provides exceptionally attractive bokeh, with optical performance approaching the Art line. The ultra-quiet Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) makes the 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary an excellent choice for videographers. Its brass mount is dust and splash-resistant.
SIGMA 23mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary
This lens features 13 lens elements in 10 groups, including 3 SLD and 2 aspherical elements, resulting in extremely sharp images. It delivers excellent optical performance starting at F1.4, paired with beautiful bokeh. SIGMA has also taken measures to minimize flare and ghosting, ensuring top optical performance even in backlit situations. To optimize portability and mobility for APS-C system cameras, this lens is kept exceptionally light and compact, measuring only 76.9mm, with a filter diameter of 52mm, and weighing 340 grams. SIGMA has achieved an ideal balance between superb optical performance and construction.
SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary
The Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is a very fast all-round lens. Its 9-blade diaphragm provides smooth rendering of out-of-focus areas with a natural transition. The autofocus is exceptionally fast, thanks to the silent stepping motor. The optical design includes nine lens elements in seven groups. Distortion and spherical aberration are minimized with a high-refractive aspherical element, while the multi-layer coating ensures images free from lens flares and ghosting, even in strong backlighting.
SIGMA 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary
The SIGMA 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is the smallest F1.4 mid-telephoto lens in its class, offering exceptionally bright and sharp images, characteristic of the F1.4 Contemporary line. Its compact design takes advantage of mirrorless cameras’ ability to correct peripheral light and aberrations, allowing for an ultra-compact form factor. The inclusion of a special low-dispersion (SLD) element keeps axial chromatic aberration to a minimum, achieving image quality that approaches the SIGMA Art line.
